Entry Requirements
Identification and/or Citizenship Requirements
Each visitor must provide a form of government photo identification (e.g., driver’s license) at the time of site access. Uncleared visitors must also complete and sign documentation certifying their U.S. citizenship.
Prohibited Articles
The introduction, transportation, or possession of weapons, explosives, or other instruments likely to produce substantial injury to persons or property are prohibited. This restriction includes
- weapons or simulated weapons,
- firearms,
- any explosive device,
- bows and arrows,
- martial arts weapons and equipment,
- knives with blades longer than three inches and
- similar items.
In addition, possession of transmitting, recording, or photographic equipment is prohibited without prior approval. These items include, but are not limited to,
- portable tape players,
- tape and video recorders,
- government‑ or B&W‑issued cell phones (personal cell phones are absolutely prohibited),
- computers and/or associated media;
- electronics equipped with data‑exchange ports used to connect to automated information system equipment,
- electronic devices with any wireless (e.g., radio frequency, infrared, data link) capability,
- cameras and
- portable two‑way radios.
The visit host is responsibile for coordinating approval of any controlled items brought on site by the visitor.
Safe and Appropriate Footwear Policy
All B&W Y‑12 employees, subcontractors/vendors, and visitors shall wear safe and appropriate footwear for daily work activities and site conditions. Examples of appropriate shoes include
- closed toes and heels or heel supported footwear (sling backs),
- low heels that provide good ankle support and stability (heels 3 inches or less in height and heel base width 1 inch minimum),
- nonskid soles and
- winter footwear during winter weather conditions.
Examples of inappropriate footwear for work activities and site conditions include
- flip flops/beach shoes,
- open-toed/open-backed shoes,
- slides/mules (backless shoes),
- sandals,
- footwear with heels greater than 3 inches,
- spiked heels,
- platform shoes (soles greater than 1 inch) and
- molded/plastic “gummy” shoes.

Line management, contract subcontract technical representatives, and visitor hosts are responsible for implementation of this policy and are to reinforce the importance of wearing safe and appropriate footwear.
